The same product. The same rep. Two different days. Two different impressions. One vendor sends the veteran who knows every edge case; the next sends someone still reading the script. Your decision depends on which version of each vendor showed up, not on whether the product fits. You live with it for years.
This is how enterprise software gets chosen: demo theater, RFP checkbox games, reference stacking. A feature that “exists” in a demo can take six months of consulting to configure. The vendor who honestly says “partial” loses to the one who checks “yes” and buries the caveat in the SOW. The result: 60% of enterprise software buyers regret the purchase within a year.
Buyers should walk into demos already knowing how each product handles their requirements. Confident sales teams want this too: less translation, deeper conversations, variance removed. Same terms. Actual requirements. May the best product win.
